This year the Special Olympics USA Games were held in Seattle. Leading up to it, my colleague, graphic artist Emily Eng, and I were interested in profiling a local athlete and also collaborating to break out a bit from our respective media, including creating some overlaid explainer graphics for the video. We also wanted to milk whatever we could out of our colleague developer Thomas Wilburn before he left us for Chicago. So we tried out a little “stepper” interface for this project. There’s a lot we would do differently or refine if we worked on this again, but Devon Adelman was awesome and her story is really compelling. I got to spend a couple of days with her and see a bit of her day-to-day life leading up to the games.
